Civil Service Appeals
Some employers require pre-employment evaluations. For civil servants, such as firefighters, paramedics, and police officers, a psychological evaluation is part of the hiring process.
Sometimes those evaluations might identify some emotional or behavioral issues that might hinder employment or the candidate’s ability to be successful at their job.
How a civil service appeal works
When an applicant receives an evaluation they disagree with, they may ask for an appeal. This usually involves paying out of pocket for evaluations from multiple psychologists who independently evaluate the applicant, then meet together as an appeal board to come to a decision.
The goal is for each applicant to have the opportunity to make their case to the appeal board, so special circumstances can be fairly evaluated.
