Comprehensive Psychological Evaluations

Psychological tests are designed to identify our strengths and weaknesses. You don’t have to prepare for them in advance. The purpose of a comprehensive psychological evaluation is to evaluate your functioning at this moment and time, to provide some information for us, and to help us decide how to move forward.

How the testing process works

First, you and I meet to discuss questions or concerns you have about yourself (even if your therapist or doctor also have questions). I also ask questions to gain a full understanding of the situation.

We also discuss your testing options and together decide the best path forward. Then, I administer those tests in subsequent meetings.

After the tests are completed and scored, we discuss the results and work together, using your knowledge of yourself and your experiences, my knowledge of the tests, along with the test results to answer your questions.

Questions these evaluations can answer

Psychological testing can be used to answer all types of questions, including “do I have ADHD?” or “do I have depression or bipolar disorder?” People also often have questions about other specific difficulties they’re having, such as “why am I having problems getting along with people?” or other questions about emotions, behavior, how you’re coping, personality, and intellectual or academic strengths and challenges. It is also useful in ruling out potential causes of concern, and providing treatment recommendations.

Take the next step

If you have questions about yourself or a loved one, a comprehensive psychological evaluation can offer answers and help determine a way forward. The cost varies, based on what tests are used and what questions we are attempting to answer. After the testing session is complete, you receive a comprehensive written report with treatment recommendations, which can also be shared with a health provider. I also schedule a “results and discussion” session, so we can discuss the findings more fully and answer your questions. Clients often tell me that they look forward to these sessions because it is such a relief to have more information about questions they’ve wondered for some time and what they can do.
